Inhoud: Alcoholism and other forms of chemical dependency have the potential to cause havoc in all realms of life. Not surprisingly, then, recovering persona and their loved ones often need a myriad of resources. In addition to the resources which would likely be needed by any recovering persons, gay and lesbian persons often need resources specific to their needs as gays and lesbians. Many social workers and other helping professionals, however, do not know how to go about finding out what gay and lesbian resources are available to them, and therefore are unable to make needed referrals for such clients. The purpose of this article is to discuss some of the unique problems which gay and lesbian recovering persons and their loved ones may have which might necessitate referrals, how to decide whether one should treat or refer, some basic resources which may be available to helping professionals to meet these specific gay and/or lesbian needs, and how to go about finding out what is available in one's community.
