The interest in and number of culinary magazines keeps growing, making the librarian's collection development process in the subject an increasingly daunting task. This article provides an overview of a select group of gourmet cooking magazines, including Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, Art of Eating, Cook's Illustrated, Fine Cooking, Saveur, Cooking Pleasures, and Intermezzo. Each publication is evaluated on article length, type and content, recipes and their complexity, and potential audience. The author's methodology and criteria for selection are provided. Librarians will be able to determine the target audience for each publication and in turn will be able to make more informed collection development decisions in the subject area.
