Author: Lister, Caroline
McCormack, John
Appeared in: Evaluation & research in education
Paging: Volume 5 (1991) nr. 3 pages 123-134
Year: 1991
Contents: A growing area of research in developmental psychology examines social interaction and cognitive development. This research has important implications for education. In the present paper, key work is reviewed and an investigation discussed in order to evaluate the processes of interaction effective in advancing concept development. Despite the complexity and the individuality of children's interactions and development of understanding, common characteristics emerge. The method of critical exploration is particularly useful in revealing children's understanding. Inter and intra individual conflict are likewise productive in fostering their learning. Peer interaction can be used effectively in advancing the understanding of concepts in children with moderate learning difficulties.
