Concepts derived from Symbolic-Experiential family therapy have only recently been applied to supervision. The present article serves to further develop these concepts as supervisory tools. A series of dialogues are offered which occurred when the authors convened to retrospectively review their supervisory work together. Specific concepts which are associated with Symbolic-Experiential family therapy which are addressed are: (1) the person of the therapist, (2) teamwork, (3) the battle for structure, (4) the battle for initiative, (5) co-transference, (6) use of the non-rational, (7) existentialism, and (8) termination. The dialogues illustrate how experiential supervision encourages trainees to struggle with their own personal growth and to develop their own personal power.
