Health professions educators are being challenged to adapt their curricula to prepare their graduates for new models of care of the elderly. Prescribed pre-clinical curricula leave students with no time to explore foundational disciplines such as gerontology. The described Aging in Rurality learning system, composed of a CD-ROM Interactive Study Module, an Aging in Rurality Web site, and World Wide Web-linked resources, offers a learning resource to support inclusion of gerontological theory and transformative learning essential to preparing health professionals to implement interdisciplinary care plans that enable rural elders to maintain their highest possible level of independence. |
