This study examined leisure occupations and successful aging in a sample of older adults with arthritis. A phenomenological qualitative method was used in which data was gathered using an interview guide. The findings revealed three patterns of lived experiences: Continuing to Enjoy Lifelong Occupations, Distraction from the Pain, and Leisure Occupations for Successful Aging. These patterns indicated the benefits of engaging in leisure occupations and their relationship to successful aging. The study found that leisure occupations contribute to successful aging and contentment with life; leisure occupations provide meaning and purpose to life and support successful aging. |
