Contents: Podapolipus klompeni n. sp. is a podapolipid mite which parasitizes Schistocerca alutacea (Harris) (Orthoptera: Acrididae) in Florida, U.S.A. The closest relative of this species is Podapolipus elongatus Naudo, 1967 found in Madagascar and South Africa. Podapolipus klompeni is the first record of the elongatus type of Podapolipus in the western hemisphere. The new species is compared with P. elongatus and podapolipid mites with females having elongate or laterally expanded idiosoma in the genera Podapolipus and Podapolipoides, all of which are found in the eastern hemisphere.
