Two new species of hair follicle mites, Demodex phodopi n. sp. and D. sungori n. sp., are described from a laboratory colony of Dzungarian hamsters, Phodopus sungorus. all hamsters examined harbored D. phodopi and half also hosted D. sungori. No host individual was found with D. sungori only. Over 8,000 mites were examined with D. phodopi making up over 99% of the sample. Within the D. phodopi population, 98% of the individuals were adults.
