  An Overlooked AIDS Affected Population

Title: An Overlooked AIDS Affected Population
Author: Brabant, Sarah
Appeared in: Journal of gerontological social work
Paging: Volume 22 (1994) nr. 1-2 pages 131-146
Year: 1994-11-28
Contents: Although elderly parents as caregivers may constitute a relatively large subpopulation affected by the Human Immunodefi- ciency Virus (HIV), these persons have been all but ignored. The present paper looks at possible areas of concern for elderly AIDS caregivers and presents examples that illustrate both the broad spec- trum of needs as well as commonalities. Based on the literature, case studies, and experience as a facilitator of a PWA (Persons with AIDS) support group for over Four years, the author presents salient issues and areas of concern that should be considered in assessing the needs of elderly persons living with and/or caring for an adult child with AIDS.
