Title: Distance Realities
Author: Landis, Melodee
Wolfe, Diane
Appeared in: Computers in the schools
Paging: Volume 19 (2003) nr. 3-4 pages 159-169
Year: 2003-01-17
Contents: In the eastern part of Nebraska, schools received a state grant to build a two-way audio-video network for the purpose of improving student skills in technology. A few network teachers were trained and earned Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) and Windows NT certification. These skilled instructors then trained others and developed a team approach to offer computer networking and Microsoft Office courses to students in 8-11 small districts in the region. At the conclusion of the Office courses, a randomly selected group of students took the MOUS exams with favorable results. The distance system's management team has given careful consideration to the complex management issues and appropriate incentives for teachers which has resulted in high performance that may not otherwise have been possible.
