This study provided information concerning the performance of 40 non-demented elderly individuals, mostly in the age range of 80-95 years, on the Mattis Dementia Rating Scale (DRS). The results indicated that age was not invariably associated with DRS performance. Elderly individuals residing in the community obtained total DRS scores that were virtually identical to those reported for the 9-year-younger DRS normative sample. However, residential facilities non-demented dwellers obtained total DRS scores that were, on average, 1 SD lower (p < .01) than those obtained by the community residents. Finally, DRS scores were significantly correlated (p < .01) with scores on the Questionnaire of Daily Functional Competence (QFDC). |
