The Hooper Visual Organization Test (HVOT) is often included in a screening battery to evaluate the cognitive functioning of geriatric rehabilitation patients, but HVOT normative data for this population is inadequate, making interpretation of performance difficult. In the current study, the HVOT was administered to (a) 32 cognitively intact, (b) 46 mildly impaired, and (c) 66 severely impaired geriatric rehabilitation patients to determine if it was useful in differentiating between the three groups. Intact patients scored significantly higher than either cognitively impaired group. Cut-off scores were calculated to provide maximum differentiation between intact and impaired groups. This study provides information which aids in the interpretation of HVOT scores in older rehabilitation patients. |
