This article examines the development of psychology encyclopedias in the context of the development of psychology as a discipline. The author contends that comprehensive psychology encyclopedias, relatively new to libraries and psychologists, came about as the discipline of psychology came together from its various independent threads. The author examines the development of several specific encyclopedias, and discusses the continuing value of these resources in the 21st century academic library. |
