The kinds of social spaces people create with computer-supported social networks have divided opinion into two opposing points of view. One focuses on the positive benefits of enlarging an individual's world, while the other fears loss of confidentiality and more social control. The concept of community has moved from a definition in terms of space or neighborhoods, to a definition in terms of social networks. For some, computerized social networking is replacing the cafe as the center of the community. |
