Developing strong digitized collections will become a new hallmark for research libraries. The process must be built and nurtured by knowledgeable individuals, mostly subject specialists who will insure the intellectual integrity and worthiness of a digitized collection. Identifying collections for digitizing offers the opportunity to think beyond the walls of a library collection, and begin to think in terms of bringing together disparate collections that have a common focus, but are dispersed geographically. Initially, it is a matter of determining desirable and relevant collections to digitize. |
