The C.S.I.R.O. Division of Textile Physics has for the past few years conducted. with the co-operation of testing laboratories, several inter-laboratory or 'round-robin' trials concerned with the yield-testing of greasy wool in the form of core-samples. The methods of test are those given in IWTO Specification IWTO-19-68(E). The results of early trials, in which only testing laboratories in Australasia were concerned, have been reported. This paper describes a further series of trials, involving testing laboratories throughout the world. For wools that are low in vegetable fault, a satisfactory agreement between laboratories is demonstrated by the trials, but the agreement is somewhat less satisfactory for wools of high vegetable-fault content. The determination of vegetable-matter content appears to be the aspect of the test method in which variability between laboratories is most likely to occur. It is concluded that some further research on the method is desirable. |
