  Appeals to authority in journalism

Title: Appeals to authority in journalism
Author: Kitty, Alexandra
Appeared in: Critical review
Paging: Volume 15 (2003) nr. 3-4 pages 347-357
Year: 2003
Contents: More than most information-gathering professions, journalism depends on authorities as legitimate sources of information. Ironically, the journalistic appeal to authority is used to bolster the credibility of a reporter's story, even though the substitution of authoritative pronouncements for first-hand investigation makes reporters vulnerable to hoaxes and bias.
