Stability and Large Deformation Behavior of Nonsymmetrically Loaded Cylindrical Membranes

Title: Stability and Large Deformation Behavior of Nonsymmetrically Loaded Cylindrical Membranes
Author: Lukasiewicz, S.
Balas, L.
Glockner, P. G.
Appeared in: Mechanics based design of structures & machines
Paging: Volume 14 (1986) nr. 2 pages 229-255
Year: 1986
Contents: Relatively high-profile circularly cylindrical extensible weightless inflatables subjected to uniform vertical, unsymmetrically applied line loads are treated. Load deflection and load path plots for these structures, undergoing very large deflections, are obtained and the effect of initial geometry and load “eccentricity” on deflection and stability behavior is investigated. Predictions obtained from numerical solution of the governing equations are verified against extensive experimental data obtained from tests on a specially designed small-scale model which, together with the test procedure, is briefly described.
