Contents: A near net shaping process, to consolidate rapidly solidified Al-Fe-V-Si particles by infiltrating molten A201 aluminum alloy, is described. This new casting process could potentially eliminate the laborious procedures used currently. The Al-Fe-V-Si particle reinforced aluminum alloy composite material contains a high volume fraction of stable dispersoids in the particle and some large (Al, Fe, Si)iu intermetallics formed in the A201 aluminum alloy matrix during the infiltrating process. Despite the intermetallics, the fabricated material demonstrates good ductility with two times compression strength at 300°C, as compared with A201 aluminum alloy, and the elevated temperature strength of the composite degrades slightly after long time annealing.
