A broader definition of marine geodesy establishes a base for its several maritime applications that depends on the determination of positions or accurate measurements in the marine environment. The areas of applications include bathymetry, hydrography, marine gravity and geophysics, positioning, plate tectonics and seafloor spreading, ocean surface topography, mean sea level, and tsunamis. After a brief discussion of the state of the art, research and industrial requirements in each area mentioned above are discussed. |
