Video recording can greatly simplify the teaching or demonstration of practical subjects, such as human anatomy. The article describes the low-budget production of a videotape with two aims: (1) to introduce the clinical examination of the cranial nerves to students who had just completed their neuroanatomy course and (2) to produce a time-saving, self-teaching tool. During the production, the anatomists learned a good deal about presenting information through the eye of the media, and would encourage others to teach practical subjects in this way. The article describes the approach taken, outlines the production technicalities, and summarises the (favourable) responses of the students to the videotape
