Monitoring of wastewater treatment systems for reduction of fecal coliforms using standard bacteriological examination methods as most probable number (MPN) procedure is laborious and time consuming. Dip slide technique (DST) -a new rapid method, has been developed in this institute for fecal coliform estimation in wastewater treatment system, which gives results within 7-8 hours. Experiments were conducted to determine the comparative efficiency of DST with that of standard methods using wastewater effluents from stabilization pond. The results indicate that the method can be successfully applied for monitoring of the wastewater treatment system for fecal coliform reduction. |
