A simple box model was developed to assess the impact of biogenic emissions on rural air quality. High emission fluxes and most-favorable meteorological conditions were used to estimate an upper limit to the ozone-forming potential of biogenic hydrocarbons from a hypothetical forest in central North Carolina. The results suggest that natural hydrocarbons are not a significant source of ozone in rural areas. |
