  Systemic similitude

Title: Systemic similitude
Author: Sahal, Devendra
Appeared in: International journal of systems science

Year: 1978-12-01
Contents: The contemporary approach to pattern recognition conceives of similitude solely in terms of the individual properties of the pattern under consideration. It is essentially a wholistic approach. This study presents an attempt to develop an alternative concept of systemic similitude for comparison of patterns in terms of their whole character. This leads to a holistic approach with far-reaching implications. In particular, the initial measurements on pattern characteristics in themselves constitute pattern recognition at meta, level which, in a fundamental sense, can alter the pattern itself. In comparison with the conventional measures of (dis)similarity, however, the proposed measure is scale independent and not merely invariant against scale-change transformations.
