A great deal of normative research has been done on various production operations. Little research has been done using computer simulation into the implications of the non-programmed decision-making behaviour of managers on the performance of production systems This paper describes the development of a simulation model of the physical operations of a gloss manufacturing plant and the modification of this model to include the influence of the key decision makers on plant performance. Depending on operating results in key areas of responsibility, the Plant Manager, Marketing Manager or Production Manager assumes a position of managerial dominance which influences the operating direction of the plant. This process and its results on plant performance are discussed. |
