Title: Improving Efficiency and Productivity in Logistics Chains: A Case Study
Author: Tanskanen, Kari
Hameri, Ari-Pekka
Appeared in: International journal of logistics
Paging: Volume 2 (1999) nr. 2 pages 197-211
Year: 1999-07-01
Contents: This paper presents a case study with several managerial actions having an impact on the improvement of both time performance and productivity in logistics chains. It is based on in-depth analyses of the development of speed, delivery performance and productivity in the logistics chains of a paper mill. During the analysis period both time performance and productivity improved significantly. The study of the operational actions at the case mill revealed that the changes in production and inventory planning principles at the mill were the key issues behind the positive development. Combined with the development of sales operations and product palette, they eventually led to better logistics chain synchronisation.
