A brief general introduction to the physico-chemical processes involved in exoelectron emission from solids is given. Some recent reviews of various aspects of the phenomena are mentioned. More detailed consideration is given to the following topics: experimental methods; activation of solids for exoemission; kinetics of the emission and glow curves; the importance of defects in the solid; the role of Surface adsorbed layers and of surface catalysed reactions; some theoretical considerations; and finally the possibility that exoelectron emission could be brought about by the application of an external electric field to a solid. |
