A simple method of measuring the rotational speed of a three-phase slip-ring induction motor is presented. It is based on the measurement of stator and rotor frequencies from which an analogue signal proportional to the speed of the motor is derived. This can replace conventional speed measuring transducers like mechanical tachometers and tacho-generators. It offers a compact, reliable, maintenance free and inexpensive speed measuring unit which help to preserve the ruggedness and mechanical simplicity typical of AC drives using induction motors. |
