The concept of ' Whitely Standard Form ' for a continuous system is utilized to derive standard forms for a discrete system. The standard form technique is then applied to choose parameters like voltage-gain, damping gain, gain of second derivative feedback signal, sampling period, etc., of an intermittently acting regulator on a single-machine infinite-bus system, the performance of which is ' optimal' with respect to some pre-assigued error criterion. It has then been shown that when selection of parameters alone cannot yield ' optimal' output, the digital compensator that can give desired output can be designed easily when ' standard form ' is known. The power system is analysed here as a discrete-feedback control system. The method has been illustrated by numerical examples. |
