Many ambiguities are inherent in attempts to validate hypnotic anesthesia. In order to circumvent these problems, the present study employed a new, alternative procedure typically used in the investigation of perceptual adaptation to prim displacement. Results showed that adaptation to displacement which requires the presence of proprioceptive feedback and normally-felt arm sensations did not occur in hypnotically anesthetized Ss. All other conditions produced normal adaptation |
