This article compares the communication friendship networks of black communicators and white communicators at varying levels of shyness. The investigation was based on the premise that there is a need to learn more about the experience of shyness within various co-cultures in order to understand the impact shyness may have on intercultural interaction. Subjects completed a shyness scale and a friendship network inventory. The results indicate that there are significant cultural differences in the experience of shyness as reflected in the friendship networks of African Americans and Euro-Americans. |
