Temperature and pressure dependence of laser induced fluorescence in Sm:YAG—a new pressure calibrant

Title: Temperature and pressure dependence of laser induced fluorescence in Sm:YAG—a new pressure calibrant
Author: Hess, Nancy J.
Exarhos, Gregory J.
Appeared in: High pressure research
Paging: Volume 2 (1989) nr. 1 pages 57-64
Year: 1989-12-01
Contents: Pressure induced frequency shifts of laser excited fluorescence comparable to those observed in ruby have been measured in samarium doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Sm:YAG) at pressures approaching 40 kbar and temperatures to 700°C. In contrast to the behaviour of ruby, Sm:YAG fluorescence exhibits a negligible temperature dependence making this material an ideal candidate for pressure calibration of diamond anvil cells at elevated temperatures.
