The heat and mass transfer processes taking place within a condenser for a mixture of vapors (total or partial condensation) will differ very significantly depending on whether integral or differential condensation is involved. It will be demonstrated that a failure to recognize this difference and thus to select an inappropriate condenser geometry can lead to the catastrophic failure of the unit to perform the anticipated duty. |
