The deluge of lay literature on self-care and gynecologic aspects of health care attests to the interest in information. As health care providers, we are in a unique position to interpret, clarify, and augment this information and incorporate health care teaching in our interventions in primary health care. To this end, this investigation was designed to explore self-care/health maintenance and contraceptive use, information needs, and knowledge of a group of women utilizing the services of a women's health clinic in a university setting and of those women attending an educational session required for clinic use. Findings confirm dissatisfaction with methods, problems, misinformation, and a quest for knowledge about a wide range of health- and self-care-related issues. |
