Title: RADIATIVE THERMAL LOADING OF PYROTECHNICAL ENERGY PUMPING ON PHOSPHATE LASER GLASS

Contents: Lasers can be effectively utilized as an ignition source for explosive detonation and combustion initiation. The radiative heat absorbed by the solid-state losing medium during radiative energy pumping is expected to alter Us initial optical and physical conditions, thus affecting its performance. The objective of this investigation is to determine primarily the thermal loading effects but also other performance characteristics of a pyrolaser system designed for the aforementioned purpose, which is unique in utilizing pyro-zirconium flashbulbs for laser energy pumping and a phosphate glass laser rod doped with neodymium as a losing medium. A modified Michelson interferometer is employed for gross-field temperature detection. Interferometric techniques appear to be useful for evaluating the thermal behavior and surface irregularities of laser rods.
