The analysis of transient responses and transferred transient voltages in transformer windings is difficult because of the existence of capacitive and inductive couplings between different phases and the windings of different voltage ratings. The paper presents a new procedure to compute the natural frequencies, transient voltages in the windings subjected to impulses and the transferred transient voltages in the coupled windings. All the significant capacitive and inductive couplings between different phases and windings of different voltage ratings have been considered in this analysis. The validity of the method developed has been verified by comparing the measured and computed results obtained with a model transformer. The computed results show good correlation with those measured. The method has also been verified for practical transformer windings. |
