Thirty-four Chinese families from Manchester were selected for interview to ascertain their views on various aspects of their children's education and schooling. Analysis of the transcribed scripts show that this group of parents have little knowledge of English, and the English system of education. Parents value education highly, have a reasonable degree of faith in English education, would like more homework for their children and would prefer a stricter regime in schools. They would very much like to preserve their language and the essential elements of their culture and would appreciate help and support from the schools. |
