  Picture Drills in Language Laboratories

Title: Picture Drills in Language Laboratories
Author: Durin, J.
Appeared in: Educational media international
Paging: Volume 11 (1974) nr. 3 pages 13-14
Year: 1974
Contents: On the basis of a progression, which has attempted to take into consideration a number of different parameters (intonative scheme of proposed sentences, accentual scheme of the different words used, frequency and availability of the dictionary, structural frequency, increasing complexity of morphosyntax, retention co-efficient, etc) 25 series of 4-5 exercises on structural drills were devised for the purpose of making grammatical reflexes automatic (declension-conjugation) and for the teaching of basic spoken and written Russian constructions (rhythm, intonation, morpho-syntax). However, the exercises are not designed for audio-oral purposes. When the student attempts the exercises, he is provided with a sheet of 20 drawings, split up into four vertical columns of five drawings each. Each of the four or five exercises in each series comprises 10 items (two models, the first in translated form and the second not, and 10 items of actual exercise, the last two of which in fact are identical to the two used at the beginning as models).
