In spite of multi-country application of the dynamic Leontief model for planning in the absence of capital coeficient tables, such tables have long been felt necessary in Iran. The uniqueness of this study lies not only in the construction of such a table for 1974 in accordance with the suitably aggregated flow table but also the empirical application of such a model for the exogenously targeted growth rate of the final demand components together with the specification of the balanced growth rate in terms of von Neumann's model. The empirical exercise related to the targeted growth rate for 1974-1978 has not only shown the imperative need to use available foreign exchange reserves and competitive imports, vis-a-vis domestic supply, to different degrees under different import scenarios for these years, but also indicated the corresponding surplus of foreign exchange for the year 1974. Therefore, the empirical exercise was extended to derive the von Neumann growth rate together with policy implications for the said year. |
