Drawings of young children have occupied the attention of psychologists and educationalists since the beginning of this century. They have been studied from the viewpoints of intellectual, social and emotional development. We have taken some of the more recent theories and findings and have applied them to an examination of drawings by children between the ages of seven and eleven from England and Hong Kong. We have examined the drawings also from a cultural point of view and this has resulted in some interesting findings of differences between Chinese and English children's efforts. Similarities however were far more apparent than differences. |
