How a community group in New South Wales, Australia, provided a link between local community and regional television industry personnel, to articulate and resolve issues relating to children and television, is the focus of this paper. Initiated by a regional television station, the community group provided advice and assistance on matters relating to childrens' television, particularly in terms of meeting the requirements of recent legislation which called for all commercial television stations in Australia to broadcast programs specifically oriented to children, between the ages of six and fourteen, for one hour per day. Activities of the group are listed and its impact over a 10 year period is briefly assessed. |
