Title: A Critical Look at Children and Microcomputers: Some Phenomenological Observations
Author: Kreuger, Larry W.
Karger, Howard
Barwick, Kathy
Appeared in: Early child development and care
Paging: Volume 32 (1988) nr. 1-4 pages 69-82
Year: 1988
Contents: This paper focuses on a critical analysis of computer technology through the phenomenological approach. The psychological and sociological effects of introducing children to computers are discussed, including the impact that computers have on the child's sense of time and the potential negative effect computers have on the play of children. The article concludes that the trend toward computer technology in the classroom cannot be turned back; however, it is critical that educators understand the long term consequences of computer technology on children and attempt to insure that this technology does not become an agent of repression.
