Resolving issues of loss and bereavement can often help to facilitate and maintain change in the course of recovery from addictions. Groups focused on these issues aid the individual in making sense of their experiences, especially in the context of chaotic addictive life-styles. The function of such groups is to allow recovering addicts to recognize the meanings of the deceased person and the impact of those deaths. In this way, they help in the identification of purpose and meaning for the remainder of their recoveries. A structure for such groups is described and illustrated with case examples. |
