Altered states of consciousness: A form of death education?

Title: Altered states of consciousness: A form of death education?
Author: Hine, Virginia H.
Appeared in: Death studies
Paging: Volume 1 (1978) nr. 4 pages 377-396
Year: 1978-10-01
Contents: It is suggested that a link exists between adaptive attitudes toward death and the experience of dramatically altered states of consciousness. Permanent changes in attitude frequently occur whether the altered state of consciousness is drug induced, achieved through various spiritual disciplines, or results from physical trauma in a “clinical death.” The implications for death education are explored and three approaches both to studying and utilizing the link between no ordinary awareness and adaptive perspectives on death are suggested.
