Approximately 80 percent of the students who have matriculated in the author's death education classes have been female and about 20 percent male. Several reasons for this gender differential, including Stillion's four-fold, attitudinal typology, are offered. Other dimensions, including Forum for Death Education and Counseling membership, death education instructors, and contributors to editorial boards and scholarly literature, were examined to determine the female-male ratio. Forum membership is comprised of approximately three females for every male while the obverse is noted for those teaching death education and contributing to scholarly literature. Some rationale is offered in explaining this gender difference. |
