Inhoud: In this study we explore perceptions of and appropriate graduate-level curriculum pursuant to the field of corrections. Specifically, we question whether Thornberry's conclusion that the field of criminology has a core set of values and ideas can be extended to the sub-area of correctional education at the graduate level. Researchers at a large Midwestern university and an advisory committee of practitioners from the state's department of corrections used a modified Delphi technique to develop a list of 21 curricular topics most often addressed in introductory corrections texts to assist in the construction of a questionnaire to survey the educational needs of the department of corrections located in a Midwestern state. A sample of correctional personnel from that same state provide insights into perceived levels of the appropriateness of corrections education relevant to employment within corrections. Findings suggest substantial agreement exist between academicians and corrections professionals regarding graduate-level corrections curriculum. Yet, observed discrepancies suggest academics and corrections professionals may mutually benefit from more informed closer interactions. This article explores curriculum issues pursuant to a masters level criminal justice program whereby corrections personnel would enroll and seek to attain a master's degree. To that end, the existence and current applicability of core correctional literature and values as it relates to corrections education in graduate study and the education-practitioner relationship in the development of literature and core values are explored. More specifically, congruence between relevant curricular issues is examined in relation to the perceptions of a sample of corrections personnel and chapters contained within current corrections texts.
