Performing love: A week's discourse with forced entertainment

Title: Performing love: A week's discourse with forced entertainment
Author: Babbage, Frances
Appeared in: Contemporary theatre review
Paging: Volume 12 (2002) nr. 4 pages 63-76
Year: 2002
Contents: This article considers the week-long process which led to the creation of A Lovers' Discourse, a performance installation created as part of Forced Entertainment's 9th residential workshop (Sheffield, February 2002). The article is divided into two columns. The left-hand column is discursive, commenting on the gap between initial conception and ultimate execution; on processes of devising in general and with Forced Entertainment in particular; on the demands and possibilities of 'durational performance'; and on the development of relationships, between performers and between performers and spectators, in an extended, improvised piece. The right-hand column is impressionistic, reflecting (rather than quoting) the kinds of texts developed in performance, and aiming to convey a flavour of the event itself.
