Tiku and Balakrishnan's (1985) method cannot be considered to be testing the equality of covariance matrices. A simple example shows that their T2 statistic can equal zero for data having unequal sample covariance matrices, but a nonsingular transformation of those same data can then render their statistic indefinitely large |
