This paper deals with variable selection for prediction purposes in mult ivariate regression. Several criteria based on the mean squared error of prediction are investigated and their relation ship to existing selection procedures based on tests of significance is out lined . It is argued that the central issue in mu1tivariate regression predictor selection is how the target (dependent) variables are to be weighted relative to each other. Each criterion implicitly imposes a particular set of weights (based on the observations). |
