A soil incubation study and a greenhouse experiment with rice, grown on an Othello silt loam, showed that at high pH, in the presence of supplemented SO4-S, flooding the soil reduced the availability of Zn. However, when SO4-S was not added to the soil, flooding the same high pH soil increased the Zn availability. At low pH, on the other hand, irrespective of SO4-S addition, flooding always caused a reduction in the availability of Zn.
